Prevent, Prepare, Protect

High School/Junior Firefighter Explorer Program

A group of firefighters in uniform and helmets stand with three smiling women in front of a fire truck. One firefighter kneels and holds a large pizza box. Everyone appears happy and relaxed.

The Irondequoit Fire Department Explorer Post 286 offers life experience, community service scholarship opportunities and more for boys and girls ages 14-20. This is our Junior Firefighter Program and is operated in conjunction with the Boy Scouts of America by our own firefighters.

All Explorers are supervised by New York State Certified Firefighters who meet all necessary criteria and background checks. Explorers are not placed in situations either in training or real life that will threaten their health and well-being. Safety is our highest priority.

If you or someone you know may be interested in joining the Post, or if you have any questions, please contact us.

Three firefighters in protective gear kneel on pavement, holding a fire hose spraying water toward a house in the background. Trees and utility poles are visible behind the house.
