District Chief Steven Sessler

Greetings,
Thank you for taking the time to learn about the Ridge Culver Fire Department. The RCFD has a long history of providing cutting edge fire protection and has worked hard over the years to be ahead of the curve in municipal firefighting.
Starting in 1921 as an all-volunteer organization, our department has adapted to changes and shifted makeup over the years. Starting in the late 1990’s, career staff was added to assist with an expanding demand for service. Today, Ridge Culver is one of the most successful combination departments in the area with a strong force of volunteer and career staff handling approximately 2,000 calls for service per year.
Our staff is composed of 2 organizations. The Ridge Culver Volunteer Firefighters Association provides volunteer firefighters to the fire district and the Ridge Culver Professional Firefighters Association provides career firefighters to the district. These two groups work together to respond to incidents, events and functions as a team. Our organization enjoys a positive working attitude between these branches are we are proud to maintain such a relationship.
The men and women of the RCFD work hard to protect the visitors and citizens of the town of Irondequoit. It’s our people who make us great, and as a team with our surrounding partners, we proudly answer the call every day.
Our fire prevention division is dedicated to community outreach performing multiple public functions such as free blood pressure clinics in senior housing complexes, fire and life safety education in the schools as well as certified child safety seat installation.
Our training division works hard to stay current in modern firefighting theory and delivers top quality training to the men and women of the department, every week.
Our social organizations also work hard to support the mission of the fire department through the Ladies auxiliary, and the fire explorers.
Again, thank you for your interest and if we can assist or serve you in any way please feel free to contact us. We encourage community interaction including tours and events. You’ll find our members to be friendly, engaging and as proud to serve as I am as their Chief.
